Welcome especially to our new students at AIS and the Grade 9 year group joining us from the Middle School. This is a new and exciting chapter in your life here at AIS and we hope that you will make the most of it. Our goal is to work with you to maximize your learning.

We are very excited about the AIS Learning Team this year. We seek out high quality teachers from a diverse range of international settings and are proud of the faculty of our High School. Do not hesitate to ask your teachers questions to learn more about the Middle Years Program (MYP) and Diploma Program (DP) or specific courses. Remember that we are here to support you!

Everyone in the high school needs to be actively engaged in his or her learning – it is the surest path to success. Here are a few suggestions to start your year out right: sign up for Plus Portals and check it regularly; get involved in after-school activities, clubs, and athletics; make a very positive impression; and begin to establish a positive relationship with your subject teachers. Most importantly, organize your day and week so that you can get schoolwork completed on time while also finding time to relax and enjoy hobbies – this is part of the balance we promote. As with any endeavor in life, what you get out of an experience is proportional to the effort and enthusiasm that you put into it. It is our goal to have all students reach their full potential and achieve at the highest possible level, both inside and outside of the classroom.

We hope that all parents will stay in contact throughout the year by signing up for plus portals and checking it regularly to track your child’s achievements; attending parent teacher conferences; attending our workshops, presentations and parent meetings and visiting our offices on campus if you have any questions.  As well, we will publish a regular review of activities, celebrations and accomplishments, and upcoming events in the High School sent home via email.

Please let us know how we can help and support you.  We look forward to working together to make this year the best on record!

We wish you great success in 2018-19!

Steven Thompsons, High School Principal
