Extra-curricular activities and sports at AIS are an integral part of a student’s daily life as well as an important part of the overall educational curriculum. At AIS the athletic philosophy is an outgrowth of the schools mission and beliefs incorporating and placing value in the many attributes that make up the Profile of the Graduates. The philosophy of the AIS Athletic/Activities Departments is to provide opportunities for student athletes to work towards competitive excellence through commitment to personal development, teamwork, and most importantly sportsmanship. Participants are required to be principled competitors reflecting on their performance, open-minded communicators when competing on a team, and balanced in their approach to managing both academics and athletics.
As a founding member of NESAC (Near East Sports and Activities Conference) many of our high school activities travel and compete on a regional level in places such as Dubai and Qatar. Locally our students participate in the KASAC (Kuwait American Schools Activities Conference) League.
At AIS we offer a wide range of activities that encourage student involvement. They may participate in Student Leadership Council and help plan activities for their peers such as Winter Bazaars, assemblies and lunch time activities. National Honor League has a wonderful impact on the school climate with their globally minded initiatives, and International Day serves as an opportunity for the whole school to celebrate their home country or heritage and learn about the many cultures within our school community.
As members of our local KASAC conference and our international NESAC conference, the students are able to take part in a number of team activities ranging from Debate & Forensics to Band & Choir to Academic Games. These teams compete locally and internationally and are proven to have a strong track record of success. We also have a Model United Nations team that travels to a conference in Europe to participate in a student-led simulation of a United Nations conference. All of our teams offer a wonderful local and international experience that provide students with an ideal learning opportunity for both personal and educational growth.
At AIS we offer a wide range of athletic opportunities for students to become involved in. Our students begin to develop and cultivate their athletic ability through our clubs program which begin in KG 1. Once students enter Middle School they have the opportunity to try-out for our competitive athletic teams. We compete locally in four different age categories – Under 12, Under 14, Junior Varsity and Varsity – across a variety of events. Our Junior Varsity and Varsity programs also have the opportunity to compete internationally with other schools around the Middle East.
As members of our local KASAC conference and our international NESAC conference, the student-athletes are able to take part in a variety of sports including: Volleyball, Swimming, Basketball, Football, Track and Field and Badminton. Our teams have a strong track record of success across all levels. All of our teams offer a wonderful local and international experience that provide students with an ideal learning opportunity for both personal and athletic growth. Our coaching staff inspires young athletes and emphasize leadership, sportsmanship and balance.
